Action Education is a community-based organization. Our work is only possible through strong relationships with young people, other community groups and our generous funders. Over the years our relationships with other organisations has strengthened which in turn has empowered us to grow and become more resilient.
South Auckland Poets Collective
The South Auckland Poets Collective was established in 2008 by co-founders Grace Taylor, Ramon Narayan and Daren Kamali as part of a youth development project funded by Youthline and Creative Communities. The collective now works in partnership with Action Education and continues to use spoken word poetry as a tool for positive social change with a focus on young people. Members include national and international poetry slam finalists and champions and published poets.

The voices of the collective are seasoned with an eclectic array of stories, experiences and personal truths. Their performance styles differ from one poet to the next which will leave audience members artistically and soulfully satisfied.
This very talented team of poets and educators delivers spoken word workshops and programmes alongside Action Education in the community.

Youthline
Action Education and Youthline have a long history of collaboration. As our sister organisation, Youthline provides significant structural, personnel and secretariat support, so that we can focus on unleashing potential in our young people. This close partnership ensures we are working as efficiently as possible within our resources.
We recognise Youthline’s history and expertise in the youth development sector and are proud to share a set of policies and procedures, and to work collaboratively with the Youthline clinical and youth work teams to provide our programmes and ensure they align with best practice. Action Education is a powerhouse of service delivery, but we could not do that without the stable support and resources provided to us from such a robust, respected and experienced organisation. |
A core Youthline value is Community. Youthline believes “community is essential to the development of youth and their families. We engage the community to create a world where young people do well. As an organisation we support each other and the wider community through the good and bad. We are not afraid to offer leadership. Youth Development principles are key to Youthline’s community development ethos.”
This aligns particularly with our values of Engagement, Journey and Authenticity.
Youthline is available to support young people and their families through the tough times and the good. If you want to connect with someone, or connect someone you know to Youthline, there are a few ways to get in touch.

MINISTRY OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
At the end of 2020, a very challenging year for us, we received an invitation from Ministry of Youth Development to join the MYD Partnership fund.
We know that MYD is passionate about young people being able to express their voices, and through partnership funding we have been able to provide spaces for young people to do just that. Through the partnership fund support, we were also able to start our journey toward MSD Social Accreditation – which in turn will become another feather in our pōtae and allow us to reach even more young people. |
